Each volume in the Ready Readers series provides complete discussion notes for a collection of classic stories with questions keyed to the Socratic List on all major structural and stylistic elements (Setting, Characters, Conflict, Plot, Theme, Context and Literary Devices). Each question is answered in full, with references to the story’s text. Plot charts and author bios are included for each title. Parent educators find our Ready Readers teacher guides useful in lesson prep and use them to learn how to utilize the Socratic List presented in the Teaching the Classics seminar most effectively to shape engaging discussions about any story.
Ready Readers is designed to support the Teaching the Classics approach to reading, which advocates working with stories at or below a student’s reading level to teach good reading techniques. While the volumes in this series are keyed to particular reading levels (pre-K, elementary, middle school, and high school), they can be utilized profitably with students in grades at their reading level and beyond.
