A Tour Through Offbeat Kids’ Classics
We all love Roald Dahl and his Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but did you know that Dahl’s illustrator, Quentin Blake, illustrated another children’s series by Edward Eager that’s equally zany and delightful? We all know the simple chapter books The Littles (1967) but have you read Mary Norton’s classic The Borrowers (1952) which inspired the tales of tiny people in the first place? We’ve heard of The Five Children and It, but did you know that E. Nesbit penned another classic, The Enchanted Castle, whose verdant setting evokes long summer days and scintillating mysteries? Set down your well-worn classics and explore these whimsical works from some of the best children’s authors of all time!
